The Renaissance

Humour is the most significant behavior of the human mind. According to Edward De Bono, the creator of lateral thinking, states humour has been neglected by traditional thinkers. - "Humour tells us more about how the brain works as mind" It is said in traditional methods, that the mind thinking and processing of these methods have used the wrong model of information systems. As such, logic has favoured replacing the neglected humour.

The last renaissance, about 400 BC time, was clearly based on the rediscovery of ancient Greek in attempt to understand thinking habits of logic, truth, reason and argument of importance of human life. The distinct search for truth was made by exposure of falsibility; through means of logic; to decide 'what was right' and 'what was wrong'.

Humour is extremely important, as it is based on a logic that is different from traditional logic. In traditional logic, categories are clear, hard edged and permanent,  Judgement are made as to whether something fits into the category (the contradictions . The logic of humour depends on on expectations, flow and context. Edward De Bono derived rock logic for traditional logic - that is a rock shape of which is hard, hard edged, permanent and unchanging. The shape of the rock can be seen and felt. A rock will therefore be perceived as not letting people down as the sense is absolute.

As for water, this is different, due to the flow. The emphasis is "on to" instead of "is". A water logic flows according to the gradient length (context), water flow commences from point of being placed in a vessel. Edward de Bono calls this the "Circumstance". Now understanding the value is required, but how can value be justified? Value depends on the "circumstance and a perception of circumstance".

If you add two rocks together, it will be more solid than adding more water to a vessel. Edward de Bono states by adding water together on top of more water, you will get a surge of volume of layer upon layer, but is holistic and will only build up to one holistic perception.

Let's now apply this logic in a legal system. In a legal system, there is a clear sharp distinction between guilty and innocent. If guilty, then punishment will follow. The crime rate in USA is a very high, the ratio is 1 lawyer for 400, whereas in comparison, in Japan, 1 lawyer for 9000. In Japan, offenders are released by the prosecutor, if they apologies and have the intent on behaving better in the future. The system Japan have is  not on the basis of judgmental category "but on what comes next".

What has expressed here is, rock is on the basis of processing traditional  logic with categories that are clearly defined, permanent, identified and contradictable. Whereas water, is more the basis of the logic of perception. Let's put this into notion with information systems, traditional systems are 'passive systems' in context, full of pieces, symbols and stored on surface, however, the information does not change on the surface. An external operator is required to manipulate that information according to some rules, therefore, behavior is attracted.

Active systems are whereby information on the surface is active. The information interacts within a bound to form a series of loops and sequences. For example, a very active self organizing system is rain fall in the landscape. Over time, streams and rivers are formed, the landscape here has self altered. Overall, passive systems remain only specific place or shape on a surface and requires pre-defined situations of someone to interact. Active systems do not reliance on someone except itself. Self organizing systems are becoming of importance in mathematics and economics.
